Babycham is a iconic British brand of sparkling perry (pear cider) that gained immense popularity in the mid-20th century. Originally launched in 1953 by Showerings of Shepton Mallet in Somerset, England, it was the first alcoholic product to be advertised on British commercial television. The brand is famous for its distinctive chamois mascot and small 200ml bottles, historically positioned as a light and sophisticated choice for women.
After several decades of ownership under larger conglomerates like Allied Domecq and Constellation Brands, the brand was acquired by Accolade Wines. However, in a significant full-circle move in 2021, the Brothers Drinks Co. (owned by the Showering family and descendants of the original creators) repurchased Babycham. Today, the product is manufactured in its traditional home of Shepton Mallet, Somerset, reuniting the brand with its family origins and local production heritage.
