Kipster is a groundbreaking Dutch brand established in 2017 with the goal of creating the world's most animal-friendly and environmentally sustainable poultry farm. Founded by Ruud Zanders, Maurits Groen, Styn Claessens, and Olivier Wegloop, the brand operates on a circular farming model where white Leghorn chickens are fed on food waste products rather than human-grade crops. This initiative significantly reduces the carbon footprint, leading to their eggs being labeled as carbon neutral.
Primary production is rooted in the Netherlands, specifically starting in Castenray (Limburg), though the concept has since expanded internationally to locations like the USA and Belgium to serve local markets sustainably. Despite international expansion, the core brand identity and management remain Dutch. In the Netherlands, Kipster eggs are famously distributed through a long-term exclusive partnership with Lidl, while remaining an independent entity owned by its founders and associated investors.
