Alsa is a historic French brand specialized in baking aids, particularly famous for its pink packets of yeast. Established in 1897, it has become a staple in French households for desserts and cake mixes.
The brand was founded by Émile Moench in Lorraine, France, after he discovered chemical leavening agents in Germany. Over the decades, Alsa transitioned through various corporate owners, notably being part of Unilever for several years. In 2018, Dr. Oetker acquired Alsa from Unilever to strengthen its position in the European baking market. Consequently, while Alsa remains a quintessential French brand with significant production based in France (including factories in Ludres), it is currently part of the German multinational Dr. Oetker group.
