Lipton is one of the world's most recognizable tea brands, with a history dating back to late 19th-century Scotland when Sir Thomas Lipton established his tea empire. The brand became famous for making tea accessible and affordable while maintaining high quality through innovaitons like the tea bag.
Today, Lipton sources its tea leaves from various regions globally, including Kenya, India, and Sri Lanka. While the brand has British origins, its manufacturing footprint is massive, with production facilities located in numerous countries to serve local markets. The specific product shown features lemon sourced from Spain, combining global tea leaves with specific European citrus.
Ownership of Lipton underwent a major shift recently. For decades, it was a flagship brand for Unilever. However, in 2022, Unilever sold most of its tea business to CVC Capital Partners, resulting in the creation of Liptea (formerly Ekaterra), which is now the ultimate owner of the brand. In North America, the Lipton ready-to-drink bottled tea business remains a joint venture with PepsiCo.
