Tempo is one of Europe's most famous brands for paper handkerchiefs, originally founded in Germany in 1929 by the company Vereinigte Papierwerke AG in Nuremberg. The product became so synonymous with its category that in many German-speaking countries, the word 'Tempo' is used as a generic term for a tissue.
Over the decades, ownership shifted from the original German founders to international conglomerates. After a period of ownership by Procter & Gamble, the brand was acquired by the Swedish hygiene and health company Essity (formerly part of SCA). While the brand has deep German roots, it is now manufactured in various locations across Europe to meet regional demand, including sites in Germany and Italy.
