Cuétara is a storied brand in the snack industry, originally founded in Spain in 1935 by the Gómez Cuétara family. While the brand has deep European roots, it established a significant presence in Mexico through local production and specialized product lines like 'Las Mexicanas', which are vanilla-flavored fortified cookies designed for the Mexican market.
In contemporary ownership, the brand's trajectory saw it transition through major food conglomerates. For many years, it was part of the SOS Group in Spain and later Nutrexpa. However, the Mexican operations of Cuétara were acquired by the Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim's Grupo Carso (specifically through its subsidiary Elementia/Inmuebles Carso and later associated with food divisions). Today, Cuétara remains a staple in the Mexican pantry, produced locally to meet regional demand while maintaining the legacy name of its Spanish founders.
