Argus is a private label brand primarily associated with the German discount supermarket chain Lidl. The beer captured in the image, Argus Tostada, is a toasted lager often found in Iberian and European markets.
Since Argus is a retailer brand, it does not have its own brewery. Instead, the production is outsourced to various large breweries depending on the region. Common manufacturers include Font Salem in Spain, Brouwerij Martens in Belgium, or various German breweries. The brand was originally created by Lidl to offer a competitively priced alternative to name-brand beers.
The brand is ultimately owned by the Schwarz Group, a family-owned multinational retail group that also owns the Kaufland chain. Based in Neckarsulm, Germany, the Schwarz Group remains the largest retailer in Europe and continues to manage Argus as part of its multi-national beverage portfolio.
