Western Digital, commonly known as WD, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of computer hard disk drives and data storage solutions. Founded in 1970 in California, the company has grown through significant innovation and strategic acquisitions, most notably the purchase of SanDisk in 2016 which solidified its position in the flash memory market.
While headquartered in the United States, Western Digital operates a global manufacturing footprint. The majority of its hard drive assembly and component manufacturing takes place in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Malaysia, while flash memory products are often produced through joint ventures in Japan. Its research and administrative facilities remain primarily based in the USA.
