Biolage is a professional hair care brand founded in 1990 by Arnie Miller, a hairdresser and entrepreneur who also founded Matrix. The brand was inspired by the balance of nature and was one of the early pioneers in the ‘beauty from nature’ movement within the salon industry, focusing on botanical-based ingredients and sustainable practices.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership transitioned as the professional beauty landscape consolidated. Originally part of Matrix Essentials, it was acquired by the L'Oréal Group in 2000. Under L'Oréal’s Professional Products Division, Biolage significantly expanded its global footprint while maintaining its identity as a sustainable, nature-inspired professional line. In 2022, Biolage officially became an independent brand within the L'Oréal portfolio, separating from the Matrix name to emphasize its distinct professional identity.

Today, Biolage products are manufactured globally, with significant production facilities in the United States and Europe. The brand continues to focus on eco-friendly packaging and clean-label formulations, backed by the extensive Research & Innovation resources of its parent company, L'Oréal, headquartered in France.
