Birkenstock is a historic German footwear brand known for its invention of the anatomically shaped footbed. The brand traces its roots back to 1774 with Johann Adam Birkenstock. The iconic 'Boston' clog, pictured here, remains one of their most popular designs globally, characterized by its closed-toe and adjustable strap.
While the brand has a centuries-old heritage in Germany, it underwent a significant corporate change in 2021. It was acquired by L Catterton and Financière Agache, an investment firm backed by Bernard Arnault and his luxury conglomerate LVMH. Despite this change in ownership, Birkenstock continues to manufacture the vast majority of its products in Germany at its own production facilities, maintaining its reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and orthopedic comfort.
