KitKat is one of the world's most iconic chocolate brands, originally created by Rowntree's in York, United Kingdom, in 1935. Originally launched as 'Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp,' it was renamed Kit Kat in 1937. The brand became a global powerhouse, and in 1988, Rowntree's was acquired by the Swiss multinational Nestlé, which continues to own and produce the brand globally today.

Manufacturing of KitKat is highly decentralized to meet global demand, with primary production hubs in York (UK), Hamburg (Germany), and various facilities across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. While Nestlé owns the brand worldwide, a unique licensing agreement exists in the United States, where the Hershey Company manufactures and distributes KitKat under license from Nestlé.

Today, KitKat remains under the ultimate ownership of Nestlé S.A., headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland. It is famous for its 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan and its variety of regional flavors, particularly in the Japanese market.
