The brand has its roots in France, where the specific yeast strain was first discovered by Henri Boulard in the 1920s. Biocodex, a French pharmaceutical company, developed the product and currently holds the global rights to the strain.

In Brazil, Floratil is traditionally marketed and manufactured under license by FQM (Farmoquímica), a pharmaceutical company with a long-standing presence in the Brazilian market. FQM is part of the Roemmers Group, a major Latin American pharmaceutical conglomerate based in Argentina.
