Lowepro is a globally recognized brand specializing in high-performance protective cases and bags for photography and video equipment. Founded in 1967 by Greg Lowe, a mountain climber and photographer in Colorado, USA, the brand was born out of a necessity for durable gear that could withstand extreme environments. Greg Lowe inveted the internal-frame backpack and the first foam-padded, water-resistant camera bag, setting a standard for the industry.
Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes to scale its operations globally. In 2017, Lowepro was acquired by the Vitec Group, an international business based in the United Kingdom that provides products and solutions to the image capture and sharing market. In 2022, the Vitec Group rebranded itself as Videndum plc. Today, Lowepro operates as part of Videndum's Media Solutions Division.
While the brand has its roots in the United States, its manufacturing processes are primarily centralized in China and other Asian manufacturing hubs to support worldwide distribution. The ultimate parent company, Videndum plc, remains headquartered in London, United Kingdom, overseeing Lowepro alongside other photography-centric brands like Manfrotto and Gitzo.
