Nevanac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) administered as eye drops to treat pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery. The brand was originally developed and launched by Alcon, a company founded in the United States that specialized in eye care. For several years, Alcon operated as a division of the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis. In 2019, Alcon was spun off into an independent, publicly-traded company; however, in certain European and international markets, many products including Nevanac remain under the management or distribution labels of Novartis. Manufacturing for these products takes place in various global facilities authorized for ophthalmic sterile production, primarily in the European Union and the United States.
