Cubase is one of the world's most popular digital audio workstations (DAW), originally developed by the German company Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH. The brand was established in 1989 in Hamburg, Germany, and has since become a standard in music production, recording, and editing.

While the brand was founded in Germany, ownership shifted in the early 2000s. Since 2005, Steinberg has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Yamaha Corporation, a major Japanese multinational. Despite this acquisition, the core development, engineering, and brand management for Cubase continue to be headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, maintaining its legacy of German precision in software engineering.
