Schmidt's started in a kitchen in Portland, Oregon, in 2010 when founder Jaime Schmidt was pregnant and looking for a natural deodorant that actually worked. The brand gained rapid popularity for its plant-based and mineral-derived formulas, eventually appearing on the TV show 'Shark Tank' and expanding into major retailers.

Today, Schmidt's is a leading name in the natural personal care space, offering a variety of scents and formulas including charcoal, magnesium, and essential oils. While it began as a small boutique brand, its manufacturing has scaled to meet global demand, primarily centered in North America.

In 2017, the brand was acquired by the consumer goods giant Unilever. This acquisition allowed Schmidt's to leverage Unilever's massive distribution network while maintaining its commitment to vegan and cruelty-free certification. It remains a key part of Unilever's prestige and natural beauty portfolio heading into 2026.
