The brand's journey began in 1968 in Sweden when the company Mölnlycke introduced 'A-Tork,' a large-roll tissue wiper designed for industrial use. The name itself is derived from the Swedish verb 'torka,' which translates to 'to wipe,' reflecting the brand's core purpose.

In 1975, the Swedish Forest Products company SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) acquired Mölnlycke, and Tork became its leading professional hygiene brand. Following a corporate restructuring in 2017, SCA's hygiene and health division was spun off to create Essity, which remains the ultimate owner and operator of the brand today.
