Tannoy is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious audio brands, famous for its pioneering development of public address systems and high-fidelity loudspeakers. Founded in London in 1926 by Guy Fountain, the brand became so ubiquitous in the British Commonwealth that the term 'Tannoy' became a synonymous trademark for public address systems. The company's hallmark innovation is the Dual Concentric driver, which places the tweeter behind the center of the medium/bass cone to create a point-source effect.
While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in London and Scotland, its ownership has transitioned through several international conglomerates. Historically part of the Harman International group, it was later acquired by the Danish TC Group. In 2015, Music Tribe, a global audio corporation led by Uli Behringer, acquired the brand. Today, while research and high-end manufacturing for certain luxury series continue in the UK, the majority of high-volume production has been shifted to Music Tribe's sophisticated manufacturing facilities in China.
