The product is primarily brewed at the Jopenkerk in Haarlem and their larger production facility in the same city. The brand remains an independent entity, largely owned by its founders, Michel Ordeman and Lydian Zoetman. This independence has allowed Jopen to maintain its craft identity while expanding its reach across Europe and beyond. The 'Mooie Nel' name is a nod to the lake between Haarlem and Spaarndam, reinforcing its local roots.
