Bourjois is a heritage French cosmetics brand with roots dating back to 1863 when it was founded by Joseph-Albert Ponsin to provide makeup for Parisian theater actors. The brand became famous for its innovative 'Little Round Pot' eyeshadows and blushes, which utilized a unique baking process. Over more than a century and a half, Bourjois has established itself as a staple of Parisian beauty, known for blending quality with accessibility.
Historically, the brand was owned by the Bourjois family and later by the Wertheimer family (the owners of Chanel) for several decades. In 2015, the brand underwent a significant corporate shift when it was acquired by Coty Inc. as part of a strategic expansion of Coty's consumer beauty portfolio. Today, while it retains its distinct French identity and 'Parisian Chic' marketing, it operates as a global subsidiary under the American multinational beauty giant Coty.
Manufacturing continues to take place significantly in France to maintain the brand's premium reputation and traditional formulation techniques. However, as part of a global supply chain, certain components and product lines may be manufactured in other specialized facilities across Europe and international locations to serve markets worldwide.
