JBL is an iconic American audio electronics brand with a history dating back to 1946, founded by James Bullough Lansing. Over decades, it became a powerhouse in both consumer audio and professional sound equipment, famously powering the audio systems at the original Woodstock festival.
Today, JBL is part of the Harman International Industries group. While the brand carries the legacy of American engineering and design, the mass production of its portable lifestyle products, such as the Boombox series, is primarily conducted in China to leverage global supply chain efficiencies. In 2017, Harman was acquired by the South Korean conglomerate Samsung Electronics, making Samsung the ultimate owner of the brand. This ownership structure combines JBL’s historical acoustic expertise with Samsung’s vast technological and financial resources.
