Zendium is a prominent oral care brand originally developed in the Netherlands during the 1970s. It was founded by Dr. Henk Hoogendoorn, a microbiologist who pioneered the use of natural enzymes and proteins in toothpaste to boost the mouth's natural defenses rather than relying on harsh antibacterial agents.
The brand was a key part of Unilever's personal care portfolio for decades. However, in a major strategic shift occurring in 2024 and extending into 2025 and 2026, Unilever sold Zendium as part of its 'Elida Beauty' business unit to Yellow Wood Partners, a private equity firm based in the United States. Today, the brand is managed under the Elida Beauty umbrella. Manufacturing typically takes place in European facilities, notably in France, to serve its primary markets in Scandinavia and the Benelux regions.
