The brand is deeply rooted in Erding, Bavaria, where it was founded in 1886. The 'Urweisse' variety specifically represents a historical recipe characterized by a stronger malt profile and a classic cloudy appearance.

Unlike many other large German beer brands that have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Erdinger remains an independent, family-owned private brewery.
