Afluon is a prescription antihistamine medication used for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. The active ingredient, Azelastine hydrochloride, was originally developed by Asta Medica, a subsidiary of the German group Degussa. Through various corporate acquisitions and restructurings, the brand came under the umbrella of MEDA Pharma.
In 2016, MEDA was acquired by the American pharmaceutical giant Mylan, which later merged with Upjohn (a division of Pfizer) in late 2020 to form Viatris. Today, Afluon is globally managed by Viatris. Manufacturing for the European market typically occurs in specialized pharmaceutical facilities in Germany and France, ensuring strict adherence to medical safety standards.
