Burton Snowboards is the pioneer of the snowboarding industry, founded in Vermont, USA, in 1977. The brand is credited with transforming snowboarding from a backyard hobby into a world-class competitive sport through innovative design and high-performance engineering.
While the company’s roots are firmly planted in the Green Mountains of Vermont, its manufacturing operations are global. High-end snowboards and specialized prototypes are often developed at Craig’s (the company's state-of-the-art facility in Burlington, Vermont), while mass production of boards, softgoods, and outerwear takes place in various countries, including Austria, China, and Vietnam.
Burton remains a privately held family business. Following the passing of founder Jake Burton Carpenter, the company continues to be owned by the Carpenter family, maintaining its independence from large global conglomerates. This structure allows the brand to maintain a strong focus on sustainability and rider-centric innovation.
