Ragusa is an iconic Swiss chocolate brand created in 1942 by Camille Bloch. During a period of raw material shortages, particularly cocoa, Bloch invented a praline mass filled with whole hazelnuts to create a high-quality confection despite the limitations of the time. The name "Ragusa" was chosen by Bloch after visiting the city of Ragusa (now Dubrovnik) in Croatia, which he found exceptionally beautiful.
Today, the brand remains a hallmark of Swiss chocolate craftsmanship, characterized by its rectangular shape, smooth praline filling, and whole roasted hazelnuts. It continues to be manufactured in Courtelary, in the Jura region of Switzerland. Unlike many other global chocolate brands that have been acquired by large multinationals, Ragusa is owned and produced by Chocolats Camille Bloch SA, an independent family-owned Swiss company currently managed by the third generation of the Bloch family.
