Smeg is an iconic Italian brand known worldwide for its retro-style domestic appliances that blend technology with mid-century aesthetics. Founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni, the company’s name is an acronym for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, highlighting its heritage in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.
While Smeg is intensely proud of its Italian design roots and still engineers its products in Italy, the manufacturing of smaller domestic appliances, such as the drip filter coffee machine shown, is primarily outsourced to facilities in China. This allows the brand to maintain its high-end design while managing global production scales.
The brand remains a family-owned business, with the Bertazzoni family continuing to hold ownership and leadership. Smeg operates through numerous international subsidiaries to manage regional distribution and customer service across Europe, North America, and beyond.
