Wick is the localized German brand name for the globally recognized Vicks health brand. Originally founded in North Carolina, United States, in the late 19th century by pharmacist Lunsford Richardson, the brand became famous for its Vicks VapoRub. In Germany and other German-speaking countries, the name was changed to 'Wick' to avoid potential phonetic misunderstandings with the local language.
The brand has undergone several ownership changes in its history. In 1985, the Richardson-Vicks company was acquired by the consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G). Today, Wick is a leading name in cough and cold relief across Europe.
Manufacturing takes place in multiple locations globally. A significant portion of Wick/Vicks lozenges and liquid products for the European market are produced in facilities in Gross-Gerau, Germany, while other product lines are manufactured in North America and Asia depending on regional distribution needs.
