Tempo is Western Europe's most iconic brand of disposable paper handkerchiefs, originally founded in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1929. The brand was created by the company Vereinigte Papierwerke AG and has since become synonymous with the product itself in German-speaking countries. Production remains heavily concentrated in Europe, with significant facilities located in Neuss and Mannheim, Germany.
Over the decades, ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporations. After being owned by Procter & Gamble and Georgia-Pacific, Tempo was acquired by the Swedish hygiene and health company Essity (formerly part of SCA) in 2007. Today, Essity oversees the global distribution and manufacturing of Tempo, maintaining its position as a market leader in the facial tissue category.
