Founded in 1938 by Giuseppe Cortellino as Cortelgomma, the company initially produced shoes using tires for soles and military uniforms for uppers. The brand evolved and was renamed Cofra in 1983, becoming a leading name in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Today, the brand is owned by the Cortellino family and operates extensive manufacturing facilities. While high-end design and specialized production remain rooted in Italy (specifically in Barletta), the company has established significant production capacity in Albania and other regions to meet global demand while maintaining strict European safety standards. They are particularly known for their 'Aluminium' line, which features lightweight toe caps for advanced protection.
