Ethical Bean Coffee was founded in 2003 by Lloyd Bernhardt and Kim Schachte in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Inspired by a trip to Guatemala, they built a brand focused on fair trade and organic certification, and transparency. Each bag includes a unique QR code allowing consumers to trace their coffee beans from the farmer to the roaster.
In 2018, the company was acquired by Kraft Heinz Canada. Despite the acquisition, Ethical Bean continues to emphasize its roots in Vancouver, where the beans are roasted and packed. The brand is now part of the global portfolio of The Kraft Heinz Company, a multinational food giant headquartered in the United States, which manages a wide variety of household brands while maintaining the local roasting facilities and ethical certifications of the Ethical Bean line.
