Bassermann Verlag is a historic German publishing house with a legacy dating back to its founding in 1843 by Friedrich Daniel Bassermann and Karl Mathy in Mannheim. Initially focused on political and social literature, the publisher became famously associated with the works of Wilhelm Busch, including the classic 'Max and Moritz'. Over the decades, its headquarters shifted between Heidelberg and Munich, reflecting its evolving business landscape.

In 1998, the brand was acquired by the Random House Group. Today, it operates as part of the Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA. Bassermann is now a specialist imprint focusing on affordable special editions, advice books, non-fiction, and popular puzzle blocks, such as the 'Superrätselblock' series commonly found in German retailers.
