Lätta is a popular brand of low-fat margarine spread that originated in Sweden in 1984. It was specifically developed as a lighter alternative to butter, catering to health-conscious consumers. The name 'Lätta' is derived from the Swedish word for 'light'. It gained significant popularity in Central Europe, particularly in Germany, after its introduction there in the late 1980s.
While originally a brand under the Unilever portfolio, it was part of a major divestment in 2018 when Unilever sold its global spreads business to KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts). This led to the creation of Upfield, which now manages the brand globally. Today, Lätta is produced in various facilities across Europe to serve different regional markets, with a strong manufacturing presence in Germany to supply the DACH region.
