Sebago is an iconic American brand founded in 1946 by three New England natives: Daniel J. Wellehan Sr., William Beaudoin, and Joseph Cordeau. The brand's first product was the hand-sewn penny loafer, inspired by the popular Indian moccasin. Sebago rose to international fame in 1970 with the launch of its most celebrated silhouette, the 'Docksides' boat shoe, which became a staple of Ivy League style and nautical fashion.

While the brand's DNA is rooted in the lakeside lifestyles of Maine, USA, the company has undergone several ownership changes. After being owned by Wolverine World Wide for many years, Sebago was acquired in 2017 by the Italian BasicNet Group. Today, while the design and brand management are centralized in Italy, manufacturing is carried out in various specialized facilities worldwide, particularly in markets like the Dominican Republic and Southeast Asia, to maintain its legacy of hand-sewn craftsmanship.
