APC, originally known as American Power Conversion Corporation, is a premier brand in the power protection industry. Founded in 1981 by electronic power engineers from MIT, the company initially focused on solar energy research before pivoting to uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) as the personal computer market began to boom. Today, the brand is synonymous with reliability in data centers and home offices alike.
While the brand has American roots, its manufacturing operations are global to meet international demand. Production facilities are located in various regions including the Philippines, China, India, and Brazil. This worldwide footprint ensures that APC can supply critical power infrastructure to a global market while maintaining competitive logistics and localized support.
In 2007, APC was acquired by Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation based in France. This merger combined APC's power protection expertise with Schneider's extensive electrical distribution capabilities. As of 2024 and beyond, APC remains a flagship brand within the Schneider Electric portfolio, operating as part of their Secure Power division.
