Parallels is a prominent software brand best known for its virtualization solutions, particularly Parallels Desktop for Mac, which allows users to run Windows, Linux, and other operating systems seamlessly on Apple computers. The brand was originally established in the early 2000s, gaining significant traction as the first company to bring mainstream virtualization to the Mac platform using Intel-based hardware.
Founded in 2000 with a strong engineering foundation in Russia and headquarters in the United States, Parallels became part of SWsoft before evolving into a standalone brand identity. Over the years, it expanded its portfolio to include cross-platform tools and remote access solutions, catering to both individual power users and enterprise environments.
In December 2018, Parallels was acquired by Corel Corporation, which was itself owned by the private equity firm KKR. In 2022, Corel underwent a major rebranding to become Alludo. As a result, Parallels currently operates as a key sub-brand under the Alludo umbrella. Alludo is headquartered in Canada, continuing the tradition of providing professional-grade software for virtualization and productivity across global markets.
