Philadelphia is one of the most recognized cream cheese brands globally. Despite its name suggesting an American origin in Pennsylvania, the brand was actually created in New York by William Lawrence in 1872. It was named Philadelphia because the city was known at the time for its high-quality dairy products.
Today, the brand belongs to Mondelēz International for most markets outside North America (while Kraft Heinz retains rights in the US and Canada). For the European market, including the Swedish 'Pepparrot' version shown, the product is primarily manufactured in Germany (Fallingbostel). Mondelēz International is a global snacking giant headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
