Wattie's is one of New Zealand's most iconic and enduring food brands, originally founded in 1934 by Sir James Wattie in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. Initially established to process fruit and vegetables that were going to waste during the Depression, the company grew to become a household staple across New Zealand, known for its extensive range of canned goods, sauces, and frozen foods.
Today, Wattie's is part of the global Kraft Heinz family, following the merger of Kraft Foods and H.J. Heinz Company in 2015. Despite this international ownership, Wattie's maintains a strong local presence, continuing to operate significant manufacturing facilities in New Zealand, particularly in its original home of Hastings and in Christchurch. The brand remains deeply integrated into New Zealand's culinary culture, producing a wide variety of legume-based products like these Caramelised Onion flavoured beans.
