Batom is one of Brazil's most iconic chocolate brands, originally launched by Chocolates Garoto. The brand is famous for its distinctive cylindrical 'lipstick' shape, which gave it its name. Garoto was founded in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, in 1929 and grew to become one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the Southern Hemisphere.
In 2002, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Garoto. After a long-standing legal battle with Brazilian antitrust regulators, the merger was officially finalized in 2023. Today, Batom is produced primarily at the Garoto factory in Vila Velha, Brazil, maintaining its heritage as a Brazilian favorite while operating under the global management of Nestlé.
