Ovomaltine, known as Ovaltine in many markets, is a globally recognized brand that originated in Switzerland in 1904. It was originally developed as a nutritional malt extract designed to help alleviate malnutrition, but it quickly transitioned into a popular household beverage and food ingredient. In Switzerland, the product maintains its original formula and recipe, typically associated with chocolate and malt flavors.

The manufacturing process varies by region. The traditional Ovomaltine powder is still produced in Switzerland at the Wander factory in Neuenegg. However, other versions of the product, particularly under the name Ovaltine, are produced in countries such as the United Kingdom, Thailand, and China to serve local markets. In 2002, the brand was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF) from Novartis.

Today, the brand is owned by Associated British Foods (ABF), a multinational food processing and retailing company based in the United Kingdom. However, in the United States, the rights to the brand are owned by Nestlé, and in some other regions, different licenses may apply. This complex ownership structure enables the brand to maintain a strong presence across European, Asian, and American markets.
