Wasa is the world's largest producer of crispbread, established in Sweden in 1919. The brand takes its name from the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. While the brand is deeply rooted in Swedish culinary heritage and tradition, it expanded significantly over the decades.
In 1999, Wasa was acquired by the Italian food group Barilla from the Swiss company Novartis. Today, production remains concentrated in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany. The products are distributed globally, maintaining their position as a staple in Nordic diets while becoming an international health food icon.
