Filippo Berio is a historic Italian olive oil brand with roots dating back to 1867 in Lucca, Tuscany. Founded by the craftsman Filippo Berio, the brand originally built its reputation by supplying high-quality oil to Italian emigrants and international markets. The trademark was officially registered in Italy in 1867 and in the United States in 1896.
In 1919, the Salov Group (Società Anonima Lucchese Olii e Vini) was formed by Berio's daughter, Albertina, along with several Tuscan industrialists to industrialize and maintain the quality standards of the brand. Today, the product is bottled at Salov's state-of-the-art facility in Massarosa, Italy. While the olives may be sourced from various Mediterranean regions, the blending and production are centered in Tuscany.
Since 2014, the Salov Group and its brands have been under the majority ownership of Bright Food Group, a major Chinese state-owned multinational food and beverages company headquartered in Shanghai. Despite this ownership, the operational headquarters and core production remains firmly established in Italy.
