Pirulin is a legendary snack brand deeply rooted in Venezuelan culture, though its history involves Italian heritage. Created in the late 1970s by the Nocciola brothers, who founded Empresas Sindoni in Maracay, Venezuela, the product consists of crisp rolled wafers filled with a blend of chocolate and hazelnuts.
Over the decades, Pirulin became a nostalgic symbol for South Americans. Due to economic shifts and expansion efforts, the manufacturing footprint has grown. While it is still produced in Venezuela under the original Sindoni group, a significant portion of international distribution—including the 'Pirulin' and 'Pirucrim' brands in Europe and other parts of the Caribbean—is handled by Sindoni Group facilities in the Dominican Republic and Spain to ensure global availability.
The brand remains under the ultimate ownership of the Sindoni Group, a family-led conglomerate with diversified interests in food production, media, and real estate. In international markets, particularly in the United States, it is sometimes marketed as 'Pirouline' to distinguish it from similar trademarks, though the core Sindoni brand maintains its original 'Pirulin' name for the Spanish-speaking market.
