Asbach Uralt brandy

Asbach is a quintessential German brand, most famous for its 'Asbach Uralt' specialty brandy. Founded in 1892 by Hugo Asbach in Rüdesheim am Rhein, the brand was created after Asbach learned the art of distillation in France and returned to Germany to apply those techniques to local wines. For many decades, it was a family-owned business that defined the category of German brandy (Weinbrand).

Today, the brand is owned by Underberg AG. Throughout its history, Asbach has maintained its traditional production methods at its home in Rüdesheim. The spirit undergoes a complex process of double distillation in copper stills followed by aging in Limousin oak casks, ensuring the consistent quality that has made it a household name in Germany and a recognized spirit internationally. Ownership shifted from the Asbach family to a joint venture between Underberg and Bols Royal in the 1990s, eventually becoming fully owned by the Underberg family group.
