Brand History and Origin

Läkerol is a well-known brand of sugar-free pastilles that originated in Sweden. The brand was founded in 1909 by Adolf Ahlgren, an entrepreneur who discovered the recipe for the lozenges while in Germany. Upon returning to Gävle, Sweden, he began production, and the "A" logo seen on the packaging today still represents the founder's surname, Ahlgren.

Ownership and Global Presence

For many decades, Läkerol was a family-owned venture. However, throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the brand underwent several transitions through major confectionery groups. It was eventually acquired by Cloetta, a leading Nordic confectionery company. Cloetta is headquartered in Solna, Sweden, and manages a vast portfolio of local and international candy brands.

Manufacturing and Distribution

While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in Sweden, contemporary production for many Läkerol variants, including the popular Cactus flavor, takes place at Cloetta's modern manufacturing facilities in Slovakia. The product is a staple in the Nordic and Baltic regions and is exported to various markets worldwide as a premium, functional breath freshener and throat lozenge.
