Dilmah Ceylon Tea

Dilmah is a globally recognized brand of Ceylon tea, known for its commitment to freshness and ethical production. It was founded in 1988 by Merrill J. Fernando, who named the brand after his two sons, Dilhan and Malik. The brand revolutionized the tea industry by being the first producer-owned tea brand globally, ensuring that the tea is grown, hand-picked, and packaged right at the source in Sri Lanka.

The tea is produced by the Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC, based in Peliyagoda, Sri Lanka. Unlike many global tea brands that blend teas from multiple origins to cut costs, Dilmah focuses on single-origin tea harvested from its own estates. This vertically integrated model ensures that most of the profits remain in the country of origin, supporting local communities and conservation through the Merrill J. Fernando Charitable Foundation and Dilmah Conservation.

Dilmah remains a family-owned business under the MJF Group. Its philosophy revolves around 'business as a matter of human service,' prioritizing quality and social responsibility over commercial scaling. The product is exported to over 100 countries and continues to be headquartered and manufactured primarily in Sri Lanka.
