The brand has positioned itself as a leader in the transition toward renewable fuels, producing HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and other biofuels alongside traditional petroleum products.

The brand's origin is tied to the Swedish market, though its ownership history has seen international involvement for decades. Since 1994, the company and brand have been owned by the Saudi-born Ethiopian billionaire Mohammed al-Amoudi through his investment vehicle, Corral Petroleum Holdings. Despite this international ownership, Preem operates as a Swedish entity with its headquarters and core production assets firmly rooted in Sweden, serving as a critical part of the country's energy infrastructure and carbon reduction strategy.
