Yashica is a legendary brand in the world of photography with a history rooted in Japanese precision engineering. Founded in 1949 in Nagano, Japan, the company originally specialized in clock components and electric components before becoming a major player in the camera market with its iconic TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) and 35mm rangefinder cameras.
Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes. In 1983, it was acquired by the ceramics and electronics giant Kyocera, which continued production of Yashica-branded cameras alongside the premium Contax line. In the mid-2000s, Kyocera exited the camera business and sold the trademark rights. Today, the Yashica brand name is owned by a Hong Kong-based group that focuses on digital photography accessories and lifestyle cameras, with manufacturing shifted largely to China to cater to the modern consumer electronics market.
