Nokia mobile devices and network equipment

Nokia is a brand with a complex history involving two primary entities. Originally founded in 1865 in Finland as a paper mill, it evolved into a global leader in mobile telephony. For several decades, the manufacturing of Nokia mobile phones was centered in Finland, but as the company expanded, it established factories across the globe including China, India, Vietnam, and several European nations.

In 2014, Nokia sold its mobile phone division to Microsoft, which eventually phased out the brand for smartphones. In 2016, HMD Global, a Finnish company led by former Nokia executives, secured the exclusive license to design and market Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets. While Nokia Corporation remains an independent Finnish entity focusing on telecommunications infrastructure and licensing, HMD Global manages the mobile consumer products. Manufacturing for these modern Nokia phones is primarily handled through partnerships with Foxconn subsidiaries, such as FIH Mobile, with facilities located mainly in China and Vietnam.
