Princes Red Salmon is a staple seafood product known for its high quality and sustainably sourced wild-caught sockeye salmon. The brand traces its history back to Liverpool, UK, where it began as a fish importing business in the late 19th century. Today, it stands as one of the UK’s leading food and drink brands, offering a wide array of pantry staples.
The salmon is typically harvested from the cold waters of the North Pacific, primarily off the coasts of Alaska and Canada. Because it is canned close to where it is caught to preserve freshness, the manufacturing and canning process generally takes place in the United States or Canada.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major international conglomerates. Since 1989, Princes was a subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Corporation. However, in 2024, a deal was reached for the Italian food group Newlat Food S.p.A. to acquire Princes. This acquisition, finalized in late 2024/early 2025, makes Newlat the ultimate owner, significantly expanding their presence in the United Kingdom and European food markets.
